The butter must be applied directly to a warm Scone.  
It melts and soaks in and waterproofs it so the jam and jelly don’t get 
absorbed to make is soggy. 

This will not make me popular with my daughter and her family in Cornwall, but 
sometimes your kids are just plain wrong.
