I've got the old 100Mbps 600SS on the left, the new 1Gbps Cambium in the middle, and the new 1 Gbps Mimosa on the right. I didn't have the 1 Gbps UBNT unit, but it is the same electrical design as the Mimosa unit. To address the original question, the ePMP PoE surge protection is just spark gap (on the 100 Mbps units, I never opened a 1Gbps unit).
