I think clocks arent finished accellerating, I think they dont put the clock up because it ends up same wattage requirements as parallel anyway, and also only gives parallel throughput because you get over the electrical delay via pipelining, and it winds up the same, maybe they just dont like designing pipelined stuff and would rather go parallel instead and keep the old designs.
