As many of us are here attempting to create AGI.
Let us remember a saying, that a program is only as smart as it's
programmer.
Though of course we wish to make programs smarter than ourselves.
The point is we have to make ourselves as smart or cognitively fit as
possible, in order to do so.

Cognitive Fitness begins with proper nutrition, having enough vitamins,
minerals and fatty acids.
Most importantly, pantothetic acid vit B5, choline, potassium, and DHA.

I've been studying nutrition in it's various aspects for a long time now. I
recommend cronometer.com to help see if your diet is nutritiously
fulfilling, and to balance it as necessary.

As the brain-to-body ratio, is important in determining overall
intelligence.
In fact overweight people experience so much inflammation that their
brains shrink.
You should of course aim to have a healthy BMI within the 18.5-25 range.

Also cardiovascular health is important, for getting oxygen through the
lungs and pumped up to the brain. As some programmers tend to have
chronically sedentary lifestyles, this is an issue that crops up, in terms
of having relatively high blood pressure and resting heart rate. The cure
is Aerobic Conditioning.

Which is aerobic exercise such as running, cycling, swimming, or perhaps
even dancing, to reach between 70-85% of your max heart rate for 10-30
minutes every other day. If you don't have much practice with aerobic
activity then begin slowly within your comfort zone. For a balanced regimen
it is best to do a certain level of cross-training, meaning select at least
two different aerobic activities.

Strength training, or weight lifting for strength and endurance is also
beneficial, as it lessens chance of injury, strengthens bones, and allows
you to do common chores more quickly or efficiently.

While these may seem to be mostly physical fitness exercises, it is
essential for your body to perform optimally, in order for your brain to
perform optimally.

In terms of actual mental fitness, it is much like physical fitness, in
terms of rest such as meditation is required regularly, along with aerobic
exercises such as learning new things, and strength training such as number
crunching or programming.
