Sorry Tim (pls pls change the black background) -your response to Deutsch is pretty “dopey”.
Deutsch’s “UNIVERSAL computers etc – can’t work without a human” is actually a starting point for AGI. The idea that there is such a thing as an independent ALGO is a total FANTASY. That’s one of the first things you have to recognize to do AGI – algos don’t and can’t function in the real world without humans assisting and directing them. They are not independent systems like us, they are just limited punch cards, and they depend on human help to function at all. And humans are directing algos by doing a kind of thinking – high-level creative thinking, as opposed to algos’ low level routine thinking, - that AGI has to discover for the first time, and work out how to emulate. That’s the point of a TM2 – it’s designed to be the first creative machine. Having zero respect for the human mind, when you can’t understand, let alone emulate, its still-as-yet-unmechanised high-level functions , is a pretty dopey position to take. Deutsch at least gets the general principles here, you don’t. w ------------------------------------------- AGI Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/21088071-f452e424 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21088071&id_secret=21088071-58d57657 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
