Hi,

In practice, the course we're taking with Novamente is fairly
"intermediate," similar to the one discussed by Pei in his reply to your
email.

We will publish the overall design of the AI system and much of the related
mathematics and cognitive science. But we don't have plans to open-source
the Novamente code.

One factor is that we don't think open-sourcing would really help the
project much. This isn't the sort of thing that random contributors around
the world can really help with -- to contribute to the project requires a
lot of specialized learning, and tight cooperation with the rest of the
team.

I think that open-source projects can help AGI efforts generally though.
For instance, it would be great to see an open-source project making a
simulation world for AGI teaching/training.
