Wasn't me that said it, but...
If we define "mindreading" as knowing whether someone is telling the
truth, whether someone likes you, or is sexually attracted to you, or
recognizes you; knowing whether someone is paying attention; knowing
whether someone is reasoning logically or being controlled by emotions

Knowing someone's emotional and attitudinal state might not seem like
mindreading to you.  But most of our actions are based on emotions and
attitudes, not on reasoning.  This kind of mindreading might tell the
mindreading people 80% (made-up figure) of what they want to know,
that they could get with full "reading thoughts aloud" mindreading.
