Mike: I want to add a few things. First of all, the use of heuristics isn't a bad thing. That is not what I was getting at. And of course an AGI program will make use of presumptions, rational conclusions, prevailing opinions and the like. I am not saying that those should never be used, but just that thought requires that we have the ability to look at other possibilities as well, and this means that an AGI program is going to have to creatively find new ways to interpret, categorize and combine events.
I happen to agree that the principles of perfect rationality, that might for example be characterized for example by the infeasible and unattainable AIXI, is excessive. If that is what is all that is meant by AGI then I'm not interested. But that is not all that they mean. Even if someone truly believes in a theory of mind (or behavior), that does not mean that all of his decisions and reactions (or behaviors) are actually dictated by the theory. So this endless discussion of mathematical theorems of rationality should not to be taken as a true representation of what they are actually thinking and talking about. It doesn't matter if they use mathematics or words to express themselves, they are talking about something that is extremely imaginative. For some reason Mike, you just cannot accept that that might be an accurate description of what is going on. And without that kind of insight into other people, that they don't always do exactly what they seem to say they are doing, most of your valuable contributions are just going to be incinerated and forgotten. ------------------------------------------- agi Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/ Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=8660244&id_secret=8660244-6e7fb59c Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
