I have found the discussion about titles to be very
interesting. The point has already been made that it is not
so much what we call ourselves but what we actually do that
matters.
In some recent research here in the UK i found that
radiographers were fully aware of the fact that patients
did not know who they were, irrespective of their title,
and yet did little to rectify the matter. Rarely, if at
all, did they introduce themselves as 'radiographers.'
None of the patients in the study (n=50)mentioned the
radiographers by title, they were (surprise, surprise)
nurses or doctors.
Perhaps we should be looking at promoting our professional
image first. After all what's in name?
