Tess, turn the key so that the ignition is on, then put your head down close to the right rear tire. You should be able to hear the main pump. The one in the tank is very quiet, not to mentioned surrounded by gas, so you won't hear it.

If you don't hear the pump, I'll leave it up to the others since the later Spiders have different fusing than the Spica's and earlier ones.

If you hear it, my guess is you have plugged filters - possibly dirt in the gas tank? Just draining it doesn't make any rust go away. Was there dirt/yuck in the gas you removed? Just enough gas is getting through for the engine to start - by the way, congratulations on that! - but not enough to keep it running. Figure out which warning light is your low fuel pressure one. If it doesn't go out, then you're not getting a sufficient amount of fuel. If it never comes on, forget it for now.

If the light comes on, but then goes off, I'll also leave that one to the others.
