>Booster and MC

To clarify (I've had more than one person ask me off line):

We are NOT using shims where the booster mounts to the MC. That won't work even if you wanted to do it, as it breaks the seal between the two, and vacuum matters.

The shims are placed at the end of the rod coming out of the booster, effectively lengthening the rod. Hence, adding shims reduces free play.

The earlier boosters on the Spider/GTV/Berlina have an acorn nut on the end of a threaded rod coming out of the booster. Looks like the shims in the Milano/GTV6 were a cost reduction effort..

Ah ha. That was my next question. I had assumed you were placing shims between the non-moving parts. That's what I had to do between the booster and MC in my Dino to prevent the brakes from binding up after a few minutes of driving. (I was concerned about introducing a massive vacuum leak, but it doesn't seem to be an issue; my initial assumption was that the design of that booster must be weird, and not dependent upon a seal at that interface, but now I just wonder if the complex vacuum piping is plugged up with insect nests or something since the pedal effort required to stop the car is rather high...)
