I started using Sluggo two years ago around the few alpines I planted as I found they loved the alpines even more than the Hostas...then I discovered they rest under a large plant of Iberis sempervirens trailing over a large rock....the nasty slimy buggers...Calypso bulbosa...i have seen so many photos, but 'tis on my list of things to see before I pass...but then almost any wild orchid would be quite a thrill
Mr. Kyle Fletcher Baker, MCN Maine Zone 5 " All this talk of pesticides has inspired me to break out the Slug & snail pellets from last season(I hope they are still plenty toxic). About this time of winter we get warm spells as we are today, which wakes up the darn slugs. If I forget to spread the pellets I can forget the Primula cusickiana and Calypso bulbosa and a few other winter green species--they will get creamed in a few above freezing nights. If I get really inspired I will sprinkle around some Bt in a feeble first strike against the cut worms that seem to come out before the frost is off--just in time to fell the flowering stalks of the Lomatiums.
