Jim, I love the Parasitics..Aphidius, Eretmocerus, Encarsias all work fantastic on Aphids and whitefly respectfully...Have you ever tried keeping a banker plant with Cereal Aphids to overwinter the Aphidius? I can imagine those frogs are some happy each year!!!

It would appear that there are two different species of Aphid at work here, the normal ones on the Aquilegia and a more robust bright orange one that lives on the Asclepias. When the plants get a good infestation going I harvest the parts and put them in my Poison Dart frog terrariums where they are devoured like it was the last supper. It’s a nice change of diet for the frogs after a long winter of fruit flies and springtails. The aphid bounty usually does not last very long before the aphids are discovered by some species of parasitic wasp, the aphid populations rapidly collapses when this occurs, bummer.
