Hi Henry, I am currently growing three plants of Kelseya uniflora in slightly different positions and they are growing well. I have two in pots ,one squeezed between two piece of tufa and one growing in my usual compost with lots of grit around the neck. One is in a miniature garden (used for AGS shows) and is growing in a piece of tufa. Growth of this one is much slower than the others and the rosettes are tighter. I have grown them in the garden in tufa but unfortunately the blackbirds take a liking to them and pull them out. In my book ‘Alpine Plants of North America’ there is more information on growing and propagating these treasures. regards Graham Nicholls Timsbury near Bath U.K. -3C

They are fantastic. Especially if you are wanting to grow difficult alpines. Zdenck Zvolanek made one at Wisley, Kew and the Alpine Society Headquarters. You are probably right in thinking that the general public wouldn't be impressed or understand the significance in that method of planting. I would love to have one at our arboretum, but I don't think it should be the major rock garden as it limits how a garden can be designed. We now have been officially zoned 5- got it from the Hort Society. Shirley Friberg St. Paul, MN.
