Interesting. I have 1.6.1 loaded on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and I
don't see any dots in the title bar. I get to the menu by hitting the
hidden menu button on the bottom left side of the phone. I guess it is
just the difference between various Android implementations.

The 1.6.1 version of AltosDroid switches some code around to make the
usual three dots appear in the application title bar. I'll be releasing
that in a day or two, but there's a beta version available now if you
join the Google+ AltusMetrum group.
