Nice to hear it's working, at least almost....
which kernel-version do you use? perhaps installing the latest kernel will
fix this message....
it looks to me as if the kernel sends a command to your drive which the
drive does not support. That isn't nice, but nevertheless if the labeling
works, it's possible your still in business.

so lets first fix the client-problems.

check the permisions of /dev/null an merlin.
it realy should be read/writeable for everyone (chmode 0666)
