Indeed, there is space for overlapping threads and although the cca
discussion has been lively it has actually been a very small percentage of
the list who has been involved (a number of list members have also
left us during it). The intension of the list is to focus on new media
issues and to run monthly discussion topics (lax for a long while I know)
and of course this can involve subjects such as the cca recently but no one
discussion should dominate. It's a case of using the list to discuss but not
to censor the discussion.

...To get on to the gaming discussion, I am suprised at Gair's comment
"Artists I think are very naive to imagine
that such a powerful worldview forming product is amenable to
"subversion" or critique"...I personally think it's very relevant artists to
address gaming and for all the reasons you mention such as "modern warfare,
suburban alienation, teenage suicide"...and many other aspects especially
gender, games being largely developed by, for and embraced by a male market.
There has been a broadening of the type of games developed and who plays
them as gaming becomes more and more popular but from the number of women
I've met with plans to develop games themselves and looking for a different
approach I've not seen so much materialise.

Fair enough, but is it a problem to have another discussion topic
suggested for the list? Surely there's room for some pluralism here.
If people want to carry on a thread about CCA/DDA/Iraq/peace demo
that's okay, but others should be allowed to discuss other topics if
they wish to do so, don't you think?

There are also works by new media artists in the show - some of them
are subscribed to <ambit>. So in fact it's pretty relevant to the
focus and the subscriber base of the list.

We could get into a discussion about flight/battle simulation games
and their similarity to military training simulators... but I for one
would be interested in hearing people's reactions to the Game On
 exhibition.
