(Personally i prefer Emerald too :PPPP)

lol.. ok...
well, should this finally be our 'contest' ... ?
Release both skins with amsn 0.97RC1 and ask people to vote from the website... the winner would get his skin as
default and the other one will be shipped with amsn (maybe depending on the results)...
'cause personally I prefer Emerald...
oh and btw... DAMN, I just launched amsn 0.96 to retro-test a plugin change... and that was UGLYYYYYYYY (The
CL).. lol... I was really surprised!!!! :D
Glad to have the new CL!

lol Tom... is to be expected...

Anyway... Your "opinion" is always welcome :P

In other hand, i vote to use Lee works on aMSN Default Skin...It is
simple, clean and like Devs like it , and with a more realistic Touch......

Cheers...

Okay kakaroto, I agree with some of your points, but don't agree that
emerald is nicer.... imo emerald has too many chunky bits, removes the
shineof crystal but still uses those bilinear gradients which looks
ugly.... etc etc. This is a clean attempt and looks good, but does
need improvements... I'll paste mine and Lee's chat below... (I'm not
trying to say all users who like emerald are stupid and I'm not
attacking Gus, I'm just saying what I think... this skin is different

>from all that have come before I think.. it's CLEAN dammit (for the

most part anyway))

[23:57:05] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : hey, thats pretty clean :)
[23:57:11] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : not too heavy on the crystal
but nice
[23:57:23] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : suggestions:
[23:57:38] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : * different scrollbar, that
one looks bad, it isnt subtle etc
[23:57:44] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : (i know its from way back)
[23:58:31] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : * the chat buttons look nice
grey and then highlighted blue, but it looks like they're disabled...
maybe make the button grey but still have the actual icon colour
(maybe washed out a bit, say 50% opacity)
[23:59:06] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : * mail icon doesn't seem to
fit in, maybye something white
[23:59:17] Bæåst : yes, perhaps that would work... they were just
getting too bright full color and the colors didn't all go well enough
together
[23:59:23] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : yeah
[23:59:37] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : btw, i really like the
expand/contract arrows
[23:59:48] Bæåst : yes, that is the "mail in inbox" icon
[23:59:53] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : i think for the combobox you
should just use a plain triangle though, i think they always look crap
with a bg
[23:59:58] Bæåst : default is white
[00:00:02] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : ah right
[00:00:10] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : maybe just add a star to the
envelope then?
[00:00:53] Bæåst : i tried... that didn't look so good... the envelope
is just too small, i could try again another time
[00:00:57] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : hmm, okay
[00:01:07] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : love the chat bar bg at top
where other users nick is
[00:01:13] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : really nice, good job!
[00:01:24] Bæåst : :)
[00:01:32] Bæåst : white scrollbar instead?
[00:01:43] Bæåst : is that what you're hinting towards?
[00:01:55] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : try scrollbar in style of the
send message button, yes :)
[00:01:57] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : not crystal
[00:02:07] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : or if ti is crystal, in the
style of the top bar in the chatwindow
[00:02:15] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : or even the tabs :)
[00:02:56] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : two other things - dp
background pixmap on cl looks odd... maybe try it square and same
thickness all the way round?
[00:03:06] Hobbes - 19 tomorrow :( old : and maybe leave a ~2px gap
between chat tabs

   ok, now my comments...
1 - the skin looks nicer now, much more simple!
   the CL :
2 - the CL top is still white which is too different from the low
   CL...
3 - the 'new mail' icon has a somehwat different style, no? could
   be only me..
4 - the buddy icons skin color is too different, looks nice, maybe
only need to get used to it, but is it
necessary to have skin there ?
5- the expand (not collapse) group button doesn't look too good
because the arrow is not centered..
6 - the box around the group's name is a bit non centered too, too
much space below and not enough above... but
   I like it 'slim'..
7 - the dp frame in the top CL doesn't give the right feeling
because you already have white padding in your own
DP, so maybe show us what it looks like with the defaut aMSN DP
(which is another pixmap we'd like to see)
8 - the 'spaces' star is maybe too big (even in emerald)
9 - the star in vivia's nick is weird, I guess you have your own
smiley set, we'd like to see that, I think we
should keep one smiley set (the current one) and not change it,
people hate changes (especially for the smileys
that we're all so used to see)
10 - the grey status isn't contrasted enough with the bg.. it's
   hard to read (a little)
11 - would be nice to have a VERY light, kind of like a watermark,
icon of aMSN in the BG of the CL
   the CW :
   12 - I don't like it that much..
13 - humm.. looks like your DP has a very small padding, I thought
it was bigger.. so it means the fram on the
Cl is really with such a big padding? then it doesn't look good as
   it is..
14 - the paddings everywhere (status bar, buttonbar, etc..) is too
big, I hate it and I don't understand why
almost all skins use big padding there, I like it when it's pad=0
   or pad=2 maybe..
15 - the tabs are too big, make them smaller please
16 - I like the arrow on the selected tab, it changes from the way
it is now... but maybe make the arrow more
noticeable.. or even do it like windows tabbar, have a 'sunken'
relief or something.. but arrow is good!
   17 - the buttonbar's buttons are black/white.. I don't know if I
like that or not.. with the bg amd tabs, it
makes too much grey in the window I think
18 - nice on the coloring of the buttons when hovered...
19 - the arrow for the show/hide dp looks like the group
collapse/expand, but I don't like it too much, i think
a vertical bar is better than a one small button..

That's it for now, maybe more to come.. thanks for the screenshots
   and the effort..
now concerning your skin as being default or sipped by default, I
   don't know, I still prefer emerald2, and I
think most people prefer emerald2.. emerald was chosen as the new
default not because 'we wanted a change' but
because many users in the forums suggested it and wanted it to be
   default..
we already changed to emerald2 and people like it and we'd better
stick with it. also I prefer how it is, it's
still simple but nice looking, now that we removed the
crystal/shiny look, it's even better.. So I'm pretty sure
we'll keep emerald2 as the new default..
About shipping your skin, I don't know either, as I said before
(was it to you?) i don't mind shipping it with
amsn, but I don't see what makes your skin 'more special' than all
the other skins that users contributed.. it's
good, although not my 'style', but there are other good skins out
   there..
so.. the skin is good, I wouldn't persoanlly use it, but others
will for sure, I wouldn't vote for it as the new
default (replacing emerald2.. if emerald wasnt' there, I may have
voted for it)... and for shipping it or not,
as Is aid, I really don't mind, but what others think ? It will
depend on the general decision I think..

   thank you for your work:)
