: Is there a chance, Stephen, of introducing greater flexibility
: into the domain file. I was thinking that some manner of not
: only accounting for the first-level component, but all possible
: second-level (and so on) components might permit truer sorting
: and organization identification. I don't know how this might
: impact performance, but here is an example taken from one real
: ccTLD, .sc [http://www.nic.sc/policies.html]:
:
: sc Seychelles
: sc.com Commercial
: sc.gov Government
: sc.net Network
: sc.org Non-Profits
: sc.edu Educational

Only the unthinking or the tired post an immediate follow-up
to their own threads, but I must...

Just a brief follow-up, after re-reading the prohibition
[http://www.analog.cx/docs/domfile.html] that:

"Subdomains do not go in the domains file: you can list them
in the Domain Report using the SUBDOMAIN command."

   [see also: http://www.analog.cx/docs/hierreps.html]

On the one hand, this weakens my case for some of what I ask for
(or rant after) in point (3). I guess I'll have to create both a
revised domains file and an accompanying set of SUBDOMAIN directives
to get the best effect under the current version of Analog.

However, should recognized (i.e., directly administered by the
authorities behind any given TLD) subdomains find their way into
a reworked domains file system, it would still improve organization
identification quite a bit and permit such information to co-reside
with related information (i.e., the TLDs themselves).

I don't think the SUBDOMAIN directive meets the above needs very
well at present. It would still have use for ad hoc domain mappings
(re: my earlier comments about "bigtelco"). Am I off my rocker in
looking at the current system as a bit limited? Not that I'm trying
to come across as ungrateful here. Honest. :p

Time to crank out that list of SUBDOMAIN commands ... but is there
any way I can entice Stephen into broadening the scope of the
domains file a bit more at some point in the future?
