A typo in their spec does not mean it's not ready, it just means someone made a typo. Take for example The UK G1 site which says at http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/g1-with-google-phone/ ; "Take this beauty with you everywhere and do anything online: watch YouTube™, search on Google™, check train times, shop online or check your emails..." But as many people will tell you there is no train time checking app, checking IMAP large email boxes is painful if not impossible, and you can't "do anything" online because if a site relies on Flash you're stuffed, yet the phone is available and can be bought. >> #2 - The formats may not be supported by existing Android >> > implementations, but if Kogans R&D guys have integrated a AV library > such as PacketCore and a player such as VLC then it's possible these > are > features which will be available on the Kogan 'phone, again this > doesn't > seem to be a fundamental blocker to it's existance. > > Our developer have been trying very hard to do EXACTLY this, so far no > success........... > Any pointers how we can implement do VLC type of codec support on > Android? > > I've not tried it, but PacketVideo who are part of the OHA and have had Android stuff on the go for a while (http://www.pv.com/press_releases/09_23_2008.html), if they've reached an agreement with them who knows what codecs they'll have available and what access to the Google apps they'll have. >> MicroSD supports upto 16GB >> > You need SDHC microSD to have 16GB, normal standard microSD card would > only go to 4GB. > If they didn't say it is SDHC compatible, it is safe to assume it > isn't. > > I never assume anything just because someone hasn't said it. If there is something that says the MicroSD slot doesn't support SDHC then it's safe to say it, but just because you haven't heard it said it doesn't make it safe to assume. >> #4 - Everyone knows that product release dates tend to slip, and my >> > guess is the PR department are trying to ride the Android buzz (and > they > seem to be doing a pretty good job of it at the moment), so again I > don't see the reason why the Kogan 'phone can't exist because of > this. > > Well, I didn't say it doesn't exist. What I'm saying is that the phone could easily exist in the form the specify apart from a couple of typos (and even those may be true if there is some kind of work around implemented or they have an agreement with Google). I think that now we should just wait and see....
