I would say the point is to create brand new original apps and to continue to recruit new developers. There will certainly be many that will develope for android instead of iphone because of this contest. Also to Hellp keep the market growing much faster until it can sustain itself. It is obvious, yes. Socially responsible apps? Hmmm. Sounds like charity. It is greed and commercial motivation and passion that has pushed the world forward. Edison did not donate light bulb. The benefits to humanity were huge though.

There are already 5K applications in the market, so what does Google hope to gain? Doing the same thing as ADC I isn't all that exciting or news worthy. If there were some types of apps that were underdeveloped (like socially responsible apps) and they were trying to kick start development on those, it would make sense; but this looks like ADC I, with tweaks, some good (categories), some not (only private, unreleased apps). I can understand leveling the playing field with not allowing mature, already published apps to participate, but not being able to release your app and get public feedback (or even to release into open-source) makes it kind of boring. Make the 3rd prize 20k, 2nd prize 40k, 1st prize 90k and the grand prize 500,000k! Easy! And without having to add expend more money. I know the chances of anybody winning the grand prize are slim, but at least it would be a lot more fun. It will also make for better headlines. Not that I would complain with 250,000 USD if I won. Does it mean there will be ADC 3? Also, note that by the new rules all open source projects are excluded ("An application that has already been made available to the public (at the time of judging) is ineligible") Peli www.openintents.org On 27 Mai, 21:34, Al Sutton <[email protected]> wrote: Also interesting is that you can only submit unpublished apss and you can not publish them before judging.
