One company I worked for had a mantra: "Provide the best quality you can to every profitable customer." You've got a free app, so if this guy doesn't use your app, it doesn't cost you anything.
That said, I recall when adverts started hitting every web page. It wasn't that they were there that bothered me, it was the pop-ups, the flashy animation that kept distracting me, in one case, when I tried to by something from an online store, a 3rd party advert would swoop down, blocking the buy button. That was the only time I got mad enough to contact the company. It's probably worth trying to find out if it is the presence of ads that causing a problem or the ads themselves.
