Tom,

In some ways I find it amusing the way this discussion has gone.

You started off with an email saying you have problems finding a revenue stream
for your app, but your now giving the impression you won't support alternatives
which could give you this revenue stream. If developers, such as yourself,
don't support alternative app stores your basically saying Googles Market is
good enough for all your needs, and all the time you're doing that Google don't
really have a driver to change Market all that quickly.

Yes, it's true that alternative markets can't give you the number of potential
users you could get through market, but to refuse to even try out options to
see what revenue they could generate seems strange to me, after all listing on
Market is no guarantee your going to actually sell anything because on Market
your app is one amongst tens of thousands all competing for users attention.

You can also think of it this way; Google is a business, and so anything they
do will need to have a justification. At the moment anyone trying to justify
expanding paid apps will probably be met with the counter argument; "Well
developers have alternative markets they could use and they choose not to, so
it can't be that important", which is quite a strong argument. If developers
can't be bothered to spend a few minutes listing and maintaining an app at even
one or two market alternatives then why should google believe the developer is
going to put the effort in to maintain a quality product on Market?

At the end of the day it's your personal choice, and I respect that, but if you
don't want to spend the time showing Google there is a demand for a feature by
using the alternatives available to you, then I can't see them giving a lot of
weight to the request.

Al.

P.S. The closest we can come to what you want is our service to pull apps from
feeds (http://andappstore.com/AndroidApplications/feeds.jsp)
