I'm now thinking the reason for the 1024x500 graphic being landscape
would be for Google TV. Of course people could lie flat on their
couches to use portrait only apps. ;-)

In the same email they also say that, for the 512px icon, "the Android
icon design guidelines located at
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design.html
apply." Yet the new 512px version doesn't allow alpha transparency...
so you can't follow the guidelines anyway. WTF?
A bit more guidance on how these graphics will be used would be very
helpful too. The "Feature Graphic" is a fine example... should this be
a large-format screenshot? An advertising-type image? In what context
will it be presented to the user? I'm sure these things will become
clear with time, but for now, trying to figure out what to add to an
app listing is pure guesswork.

They just sent out an email about some new graphic to be used in the
Market a 1024x500 landscape graphic. I wonder who thinks (or doesn't
think) this stuff up since some apps are portrait only. I know this is
probably for the "new tablets" but I would almost rather do tablet
specific apps since the screen size is larger and people won't need to
squint at small fonts.

Hi,
I have noticed that there's a new high-res icon field in the market console.
Does anyone know what that's for?
I have tested this new field, and I can tell for sure that it was ignored when
rendering the android market icon. Maybe that it will get used after a market
upgrade...
Furthermore, I have had problems with the market icon. After various tests, I
have realized that it is always the mdpi icon, scaled to some random size (51px,
etc..), even if there's a hdpi icon, and whatever device I used.
But I see some icons which seem to be pixel-sharp. Is this just an illusion or
is there a trick?
TIA
