Are there good ad networks available in China, for instance? I

I don't know if this compares very well, but for instance the
Android Market is available in India. There's a lot of people
there, but it only makes 0.29% of my sales.. Also my app is only
localized in English and French. For China, I think that it would
need to be localized to Chinese. In India though, given its
history, people tend to speak English, and as I said the sales are
very low.
Localizing my app to Chinese (at least Mandarin) won't take much effort
or expense, so that part at least is not a big deal.

So I'm not sure about all this. Thing is, these are really
different cultures, you certainly can't apply the same principles
as in western countries. It maybe needs a radically different
approach.
I agree that's a possibility. Anyone else have any thoughts?

India and China are becoming increasingly westernized. I was in India 15 years ago and it was already going that direction. Of course my apps cater to their culture and are popular there. Smart phones are a bit pricey but the apps aren't. They have to buy the phone and then they swap out SIM cards according to what feature set they want. When I was there land lines were rare and only the well heeled had them. Bill Gates had the audacity to visit there in the late 90's and offer to build land line support for broadband. But he was run out by a consortium of telecom operators who were more visionary and instead of wires wanted to set up the country for wireless. India got paid apps on the Android Market last year. Hong Kong has paid app on the Android Market but I don't know if that extends to the rest of China.
