India and China are becoming increasingly westernized. I was in India

swap out SIM cards according to what feature set they want. When I was
there land lines were rare and only the well heeled had them. Bill

build land line support for broadband. But he was run out by a
consortium of telecom operators who were more visionary and instead of
wires wanted to set up the country for wireless. India got paid apps
on the Android Market last year. Hong Kong has paid app on the Android
Market but I don't know if that extends to the rest of China.
Okay, so my app is priced $4.99, and most users agree it's worth the price.

What would be the corresponding price in India given the standard of living?

What about China?

There may be some international cost of living stats out there, but I think that
someone who knows the country for real may understand and feel certain things
better.

I don't bother with repricing for different countries and standards of living. It's never been an issue with my customers (and I've been selling to India since 1998). Only occasionally did they want the price in rupees and they see that now and even with my e-sellers the price in rupees was available if they selected it in the order form.

$4.95 is the price of a fast food lunch here in the US. When I was there you could get a good meal for less than $1 but it may be more now. KFC chain website in India:

$1 is 44 rupees.

I think it all depends on what kind of software you are selling. And for those who can't afford anything other than their phone (or computer) I do have free software which are stripped down versions.
