Hi, My app was released back in June, and it was doing great with a wonderful adoption curve, when about a month ago it crashed in its ranking and now is barely moving any copies (about 100 free copies a day).
I figured it was something I did wrong, and chalked it up to experience -- I'm working on signing the game with a publisher, and have two with strong interest, so I wasn't stressing about it much. But tonight I just talked to a developer who has about 20 games on Android, and about a month ago they pushed an update to eight of them that had been sitting with the same version for months, and ALL EIGHT had their rankings crash right after they pushed them. All eight went from 400-600 downloads per day to 11-20 downloads per day. And their other apps were unaffected. Coincidence? I was still doing weekly updates, so it's hard to say what caused my app to fall so quickly. But the fact that someone else had a similar experience in a similar time period makes me think that something big changed with respect to rankings, and that it only takes place after you push a new version? I know people were complaining about losing rankings recently based on market algorithm changes. Did any of those changes happen around July 9th or so? And did they happen right after a push? Just trying to collect data here, since the Market team isn't being forthcoming about these changes. Or if they are, then please point me at the press release. :) Tim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
