We had a choice to make when our app "Radar Now!" was redesigned. Use Google's maps or roll our own. We chose to create our own map API and draw our own maps. The end result is a leaner, meaner app that has a lot of flexibility and no possibility of Google "sneaking up on us" with charges we didn't budget for. Our maps may not be as pretty nor as detailed but they are ours and we won't ever have to worry about transaction charges or restrictions on use.
There are probably very few developers who have the ability or resources to go the route we did. Most everyone is going to be stuck with the Google option and most likely will face some usage charge at some point in the future. Just make sure you've taken that into account. -John Coryat -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
