Google wants to have a competitor to iTunes and Amazon digital goods. I get that.
They also don't want to have more than one team focused on delivering digital content to consumers. I get that too. After all, once they dug deep into their pockets to put more than one person on the Android Market team (assuming they have), they sure didn't want to splurge on more people. So now they are coming up with a brand name to reflect their internal organization structure. It doesn't make sense to me. I don't know why they couldn't just choose Google Market instead of Android Market or something like that. I haven't seen where this will benefit *me* yet. I see where it benefits Google, and I am dubious that it benefits the consumer. I will see drawbacks (for me) based on them de-emphasizing useful apps, but will it open up new business opportunities? At present, I don't even know how to submit Books to Android Market, and whether they would even let me submit Movies. Will I soon be able to submit digital content for sale on this Google Play thing, and sell it on the web as well as mobile devices?
