Hi Niels,

I think that concept could be realized with the Drawer widgets, described at 
http://appeal.kde.org/wiki/Drawers

A Ressource drawer could be attached to any KDE Application. The User could 
then drag objects from that drawer to the application and work with it.

I don't know wether I've understood the concept of drawers as it was meant. I 
would look forward to have such a Ressource drawer for immediate work with 
any 'digital object' :-). It would be nice and quite usable feature.
