Hi Clarence;
  Thanks for the reply. I followed your instructions, but alas, this did
not solve the problem.

  I then thought of something, which I tried, and low and behold, I can
now surf my local hard drive, including my EMail, when I'm offline.

  The problem appears to be 4DOS. I use 4DOS.COM, version 6.02, instead
of COMMAND.COM.

  The solution was to start COMMAND.COM, and then ARACHNE.BAT.

  However, if 4DOS.COM is the problem, then why can I surf locally when
connected to the Internet, but not when I'm disconnected from the
Internet? That is, I can use 4DOS.COM, connect to the Internet, and surf
locally with no problems.

  In order to surf locally, when disconnected from the Internet, I have
to exit ARACHNE, type COMMAND.COM, and restart ARACHNE.

  While this is a work-around, I'd like to know why this is happening.
Any insights?
