Telnet - E-mail quandary

Hi All,
       Does anyone know how I can download files
from my detroit.freenet.org directory when I telnet
from Arachne. If I use Banana.com all I have to do
is give a zmodem download command when I'm in the
DFN directory and Banana automatically downloads
the file to my HD by zmodem. With Arachne the download
doesn't happen. Do I have to use FTP or some other
protocol?
