What about an install log of APMs (APM.ID, IIRC) which don't overwrite
eachother (eg PROGNAME.AIL, where AIL = APM Install Log :-) ?

Uninstall can NEVER be done decent if files are modified.
Example: prog01 changes a line and prog02 changes that same line.
After uninstalling prog01, prog01 can re-modify the line as it was
before installing both prog01 and prog02. But than prog02 doesn't
work anymore.
Again, it should be nice if every program on every OS gives an
_EXACT_ install.log and a readme which warns the user about what it's
doing during install. This way you can always modify everything by hand
after uninstall.

Yes, that'll be nice.

Not completely, as you can read.
