Hello to your all.
I'am writing this with 'Windows Open' but I hope to close
them soon with your help.

I'am a 'HAM' (amateur radio operator) and using packet radio
for about 7 years now with DOS on an XT 8086 machine, a
Toshiba T1000 and about 5 years ago a 286 came in my home.

I asked around on the packet-network for a program to send and
receive e-mails via internet... in DOS.
Almost every ham reacted: "You are mad... this is impossible!"
At least you have to install Windows!

One radio amateur downloaded Arachne to me... and I installed it.
Arachne did not look nice on the black & white screen and DID NOT
WORK...
Two years ago I asked a freind with acces to internet and he down-
loaded a newer version of Arachne... wich did not work either!
Recently I got hold on a Pentium I machine, Windows installed, and
I joined the fun of the WWW and found my way to Arachne home page
and downloaded the latest version of Arachne... but it still does not work!

I runned the 'setup' and supplied the details for connecting my provider,
the same set of details I am using now to connect to you now (with outlook express).
The fonenumber is dialed correctly and the provider gives back to me:

** UDS Terminal Server NLUDS0HRV01 **

Login: _         (The underscore is a blinking cursor)

That's all that is happening folks .... and the only key that responds is
"Esc" wich gives me back the Arachne screen with:
"UNABLE TO INITIALISE PPP"

History repeats itself... I had this trouble before and no doubt I do some-
thing wrong... but WHAT ??????

Please Help, Arachne looks nice on my new color-screen... but would
look even nicer if Arachne should work properly.

Can you imagine that I am desperate....
