Dear list:
I seem to get the dreaded "video mode not supported" error the way some
people get "PPP not established" message!

Not yet having found a card like Clarences ATX wondercard, I have tried
to put Arachne into EGA mode on all of five different machines lately,
all with no joy. There were an assortment of cards of the same general
description - sporting DB 9 as well as DB 15 connectors and with a bank
of switches to get different modes.
I am afraid it is mud in the eye for Arachne, as Windows will run these
combinations. CGA seems reliable in Arachne and I have been playing with the
colours in the .cfg file - thanks for the information Bernie. CGA though
is pretty terrible looking but EGA is OK - hence my interest. The only
time in fact I have ever seen Arachne in EGA mode is on this B&W VGA
screen with a TSENG4000 card, where the EGA mode is very surplus to
 requirements!

I have searched Arachne for signs of video setup, but there seems to be
no equivalent of Windows drivers or .ini files. Am I just unobservant?
It is a very short deadend when setup just instantly says no go, and
then cycles, just to add infuriation to disappointment.
After eventually getting another B&W VGA (rare as hens teeth) I set up a
neighbours computer with Arachne in grey scale and it looked good and
ran well on his 40 Mhz 386. Then today I cant get it to start the video
mode - same old message! Can you issue mode commands, or load them from
DOS or something?

On a more pleasing note, I am having fun using .ah files from L.D. Best
that make composing long emails more flexible in Insight.
