Javascript is generally used for WWW applications, though there is a standalone Javascript. I believe I found it (OS/2 version) on http://hobbes.nmsu.edu. Java tends to be bound with the Internet but is not really Internet-specific. There is a multiplatform HotJava Web browser by Sun. I tried the OS/2 version, but it was rather bloated and clumsy. I think I read about a move to standardize Javascript under the name ECMAScript but haven't heard anything further about ECMAScript recently.
