The only issue that prevents me from enjoying the internet are web pages
that cannot be accessed because of proprietary tags and requirements to
use certain types of the latest and greatest Windoze browsers and plugins.
Also I do not like websites that are overloaded with images and sound files.
They take too long to download. I am primarily interested in textual
information. I am not interested in seeing irrelevant pictures, animations,
and sounds. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but only if it is
appropriate and highly relevant. I don't want any annoying blatant
distractions when I am trying to read about something. If the pictures and
diagrams and sounds fail to aid my understanding, and if they tend to slow
down my research efforts, then it would be better to just turn such
distractions off.
If Michael were to equip Arachne with all the features of the latest and
greatest, then Arachne would become just another bloatware application
and a hog for system resources and a real drag on the surf.
Of course I enjoy very much the browsing of websites that meet traditional
standards that are compatible with any browser.
People who design websites in such a manner so as to intentionally exclude
those who are not using the "latest and greatest" are extending a
discourtesy to many sectors of the www community. No one will ever
succeed in educating me by gloating in his exclusive egocentrism and
self-agrandizement. That is not the way to sell me on anything.
