EDIT.COM is not a "stand-alone" DOS text editor. It requires QBASIC and it
must load QBASIC into memory in order to work. PICO may be used as a
"stand-alone" program.

FYI, Pico is provided also with the standard download packages for the DOS
versions of PC-PINE. With the DOS versions of PC-PINE, the user does not
have the option of setting up PC-PINE so as to use his favorite text
editor. He must use PICO, unless he wants to shell out of PINE and work
with some other editor while in the DOS shell.
With the Windoze versions of PC-PINE, the user can configure the software so
as to use his favorite editor, so I am told.
EDIT.COM has much better features than PICO, IMHO. The disadvantage of
EDIT.COM is that it cannot function all by itself as a "stand-alone", because
it requires QBASIC in order to work.
