But DON'T use FDISK unless you have a complete backup of your HD and a boot 
floppy.  Use one of the non-destructive disk partitioners available, such as 
Partition Magic, that will partition a HD on the fly.  STANDARD CAVEAT: 
Always have a complete backup before you do *anything* with your hard drive.

You may have to do several partition operations to partition the HD without 
losing data.  Say you have 800MB of files on your 1.2GB HD, your first 
operation would be to partition the HD into an 800MB+ partition, and a 400MB- 
or smaller partition(s).  Transfer some of the files from the 800MB partition 
into the 400MB or smaller partition(s); then another partition can be created 
using the empty space now existing in the 800MB partition.  If you try to 
change the size of a partition to smaller than the occupied area, you will 
lose data/files.
