TM>I'll have to browse http://www.nettamer.net to verify that Net-Tamer
TM>is going text-only.
MM>Yup... Beta v1.13.
I saw that. But I couldn't tell whether Net-Tamer intended to remain text-only
in the release version.
TM>You could download DOS Lynx386 and Pictview, all freeware, and
TM>view desired graphics, including inline, on a separate screen.
MM>Not necessary... I much prefer Arachne.
Arachne is so slow with me, I have Cx486DX2-S at 66 MHz, better than a 386 SX or
even DX but not Pentium-strength. Downloading without viewing is very tricky in
Arachne, much easier with Lynx (just hit d). Now Arachne 1.67 can't view .MES
files offline (Load Error), but then Lynx can't recognize email messages, and
even Netscape Communicator 4.04 can't recognize email messages downloaded by
another program.
MM>My point is that NetTamer (with a good Reader like NTReader) is
much more efficient and easier to use for email and NGs only.
IMO NT's browser is only of benefit to users of text-to-speech
programs and people using old palmtops and the like.
There was a thread on this list to the effect that Arachne is not well suited
for text-to-speech programs, and Michael Polak said Lynx was much better for
that purpose. But isn't there some future for Arachne on palmtops, cell phones
and Internet appliances?
