Roger,

I was trying to send a forum message, mostly in DCIMSUP and to a lesser extent
OCIMSUP, which had gone NISA (HMI-only). Then I was "Timed out waiting for a
response" followed by disconnect. Occasionally I was timed out and disconnected
under other circumstances.

I was able to send and receive Internet mail from Compuserve until they caught
the bug in August 1997, so I had the addressing correct. The August 1997 bug
only affected receiving. I couldn't send unless it was a reply. If I knew the
proprietary file formats, maybe I could have made a message to be sent look like
a reply?

I remember the DOSCIM proprietary file-cabinet format, with all those cryptic
file names and weird file data format that couldn't be read from outside DOSCIM.
I don't like the cryptic file names in Arachne/Insight, but those are much
preferable to DOSCIM.

If you had WWW access, you could access WWW-based free email services. Could
you dial a PPP Internet connection using Compuserve as ISP? Then you could use
POP3 access (Arachne Insight or other software) with a free email service that
allows such access.
