from L.D. Best:

When my TrippLite UPS battery went bad and it no longer provided backup
power, it was still working as a surge protector. Since we have storms
around here with lightning 12 of the 12 months of the year, I did not
want to leave my system unprotected. But I didn't have to. TrippLite
sent the replacement UPS along with the RMA and a prepaid return lable
to ship the bad unit back to them.

When my Travan tape drive went bad I couldn't really use it to store
data any longer, but it would read the backup files. It wouldn't have
been too inconvenient to ship the drive back and wait for a replacement,
but I didn't have to. HP [who bought out Colorado] sent the replacement
along with an RMA and a pre-paid return lable to ship the bad unit back
to them.

That, sir, is why a decent auto shop provides you with a loaner. That
is why Enterprise Car Rental picks you up and drives you to their office
to complete the paperwork. And every time I'm in the hospital it *is* a
vacation for me: I don't have to cook, clean house, make the bed or do
the laundry; my meals are brought to me and the mess afterwards quickly
removed; I receive clean sheets on my bed every day; clean clothing is
provided every day, or more often if I request it; if my hair needs
brushing and my arms are tired, I have someone to do that for me; I even
have someone who will scratch my back when it itches.

You're doing something wrong if you're not getting that level of
service. :>

Regarding the TrippLite, couldn't the battery be replaced? With the APC
BackUPS Pro 420, they shipped a new battery (for about $48) together with a
little box with a return label for the old battery.

In your case, they would be repairing rather than replacing the monitor. I
happen to have an old VGA monitor from my original computer in 1990, before
upgrading to SVGA. I used that old monitor once when the SVGA monitor needed
repair. Maybe you can find an old monitor somewhere? Goodwill?

Where do you find such a wonderful hospital? Sure you're not dreaming? I seem
to find the worst MDs & hospitals. Imagine in an emergency room, a man strapped
down on a conveyance on wheels, because of danger of head or neck injury, saying
"I gotta pee", and the personnel just let him stay there for hours, letting him
urinate and mess the floor as well as his clothes. Not nice for the patients
around him, either. Sounds like the third world? That was Louisville KY, USA!
