Those British folks have some very strange slang expressions.
In England it is perfectly OK for a guy to say to a girl after
he has reached an agreement with her on arrangements for a date:
"Well, I'll knock you up on Saturday night around 8:00 PM". Over
there it just means that that the girl can expect the guy to come
over and knock on her door at 8:00 PM on Saturday night. An
American girl would of course infer a quite different meaning
and she would slap the guy in the face. Those British dudes ought
to become more acculturated in some pointers on how to speak good
old plain American English!
I just thought I would pass this info along to any Brits attempting
to get a date with any American girl you might happen to meet over
there. Also you will need to know about our social niceties if you
should ever visit the US and try to get a date with a girl over here.
All the best,
Sam Heywood
