What does SI stand for?
I know what it refers to, but what do the initials stand for?
Despite being taught in the schools for for over forty years and
despite usage in the scientific community and in the American
military, not to mention the rest of the world, there is no widespread
movement in the United States to adopt the metric system. It
doesn't even come up anymore as a serious alternative.
It seems to be a dead issue here as far as I can tell.
