Those smiley faces are back.
I opened up Arachne today and almost immediately had problems. I have
my inbox as "home page"; from there I clicked on the toolbar "little
envelope" to get to the mail handling toolbar so I could find a specific
tbs I wanted to work on.
When I clicked, I suddenly had NO toolbar. It wasn't a matter of it
being "there" but not written to screen; I carefully 'quartered' the
entire area of the screen and there were no active anythings behind that
blank grey surface.
I went to toolbar.tb and it was fine ... hadn't been written to for ages
[file dates do come in handy sometimes]. I went to check mime.cfg and
it was fine -- not written for ages either.
I was unhappy camper. Although the file downloading I do is minimal, I
went to F-Prot and ran that; although outdated, it said everything was
fine, virus-wize.
I then went to the F-Prot ftp site, saw a number of new things, so went
to F-Prot website to check out what was which/where/when ... I then
downloaded everything necessary to bring F-Prot up to date -- a couple
of things via html and a couple via ftp. With the new downloads, I
closed down Arachne and then upgraded the HDD and 3-floppy installs of
F-Prot.
I then went back to Arachne, and the toolbar was back. Following a
hunch, I once again [I've been doing it about once a week or so, because
we've never been able to get a real handle on what overwrites the smiley
faces] checked out Arachne.cfg.
That's when I found the smiley faces were back.
I immediately saved that version of arachne.cfg, and then saved
history.lst [not that *that* is worth much, since it writes lines into
the file in a rather random manner!]. I again checked toolbar.tb and
mime.cfg, and they were both still pristine.
So, if anyone listening might be able to pinpoint the source of the
smiley faces based upon this more precise information, and the history
list, and the flawed cfg file, let me know and I'll send you the two
files.
