Let's find out. I have just now write-protected my ARACHNE.CFG. Also I
have write-protected DJPEG32.EXE and CWSDPMI.EXE. I will inform the list
as to what happens as a result.

I too have always had those smiley faces creeping into my ARACHNE.CFG.
Every time I clean them out of there they always come back to haunt me.
In my case the smiley faces do not appear to be causing me any problems.
I just don't like their being in my ARACHNE.CFG because I don't know
where they are coming from and I feel that they just should not be there.
