In the US there is a well known fraternal brotherhood named "Loyal Order
of the Moose" (BTW, this organization now admits women into membership).
Also there is another well known fraternal brotherhood named "The Elks".
The full name of this brotherhood is abbreviated as B.P.O.E. I don't know
what the initials stand for, and I don't know if The Elks are now
admitting women into membership. I don't know if either of these
organizations have gone international, so as to maintain chapters in other
countries. Both of these organizations have adopted official logos and
shields whereon the correct animals are depicted corresponding to the
names of the organizations. Of course the term "fraternal brotherhood"
would seem a most redundant combination of words, but that is what they
call such organizations as The Mooose and The Elks. I don't know what
kind of term would be a "proper" one to refer to an organization that
originally started out as a "fraternal brotherhood", but which now admits
women into membership. I suppose I would know a lot more about such
things as these if I were a member of either organization. I belong to
the I.O.O.B. To any list members who may be my brothers in this
organization, I extend to you all our traditional greeting.....

P.S. BTW, is anyone on this list a Turtle? Let all imposters beware!
Only the genuine Turtles know the answer to this question.
