Multiply that time (140 sec) by 300 or a little more and get an estimate of how
long it would take to download a CD image?

When downloading NetBSD stuff with DOS-based scripted and nonscripted FTP, using
FTP07, I got about 5.4 KB/sec at 56K.  At that speed, that image would take
about 330 sec.  But then maybe the grin.hq.nasa.gov server would not be up to
full speed.  I've certainly had a fair share of slow downloads.

What OS were you in with DSL, and does the DSL include PPPoE?
