 Yes, I read them as they arrived and then left them in the inbox.
I used the Pine inbox as an archive. As Pine took me automatically to
the first new message without any noticeable slowdown in performance
this caused no problem whatsoever. Every few months I would throw
stuff out.

Then my ISP canceled all the shell accounts and I started using
Arachne for my email. I found I had to change my habits!

For other reasons my email needs have changed, so it's not a
problem anymore.

But it would be if I got involved in high volume emailing again. At
one point I was on three lists and each got forty or fifty emails
a day. If I went away for long weekend I could come back to four or
five hundred messages and if the download got jammed halfway through
I'd have even more.
