Or even better. Dont shut down. Look at -- suspend2.net -- I use it very often, since my pc is slow and bootup takes a long time. The suspend2 patches are included in archck patchset, and enabled by default in the stock archck kernel in -extra. Thats the best option, since the swsusp included in the default kernels just plain sucks.
